Grocery Department Manager

Each Eataly location contains an array of restaurants, cafés, to-go eateries, fresh counters (think Italian cheese and meat, and fresh pasta made in front of you!), a grocery market with more than 10,000 products, and a cooking school.

At Eataly this position is referred to as a Market Manager.

Eataly’s bustling marketplaces feature a rich variety of unique, high-quality Italian and local products. The Market Manager oversees the Grocery and Housewares departments. Reports to the Retail General Manager and supervises Grocery and Housewares team members.

  • Organizes the store’s Grocery and Housewares departments to achieve objectives and maximize productivity
  • Manages the Grocery and Housewares teams: schedules, approves payroll, hires, trains, enforces customer service and quality standards, provides feedback, motivates and handles terminations
  • Creates the monthly promotion grid and designs the layout and promotional spots in the store with saleable merchandise according to Eataly’s policies
  • Maintains an orderly store aesthetic: ensures that only saleable merchandise is placed on the grocery shelves and promptly handles deleted, expired or otherwise non-saleable merchandise
  • Monitors stock levels and orders or requisitions supplies and merchandise as needed
  • Processes delivery orders, assists with and/or oversees the unloading of stock trucks from distribution centers, and ensures accurate monthly reporting
  • Communicates and coordinates with the marketing and facilities departments on any updates or issues regarding the overall layout of product and fixtures in the store
  • Analyzes financial data and develops strategies to increase efficiencies and drive sales 
  • Documents, investigates and resolves employee and guest incidents
  • Performs other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 2+ years of retail management experience in a high-volume, fast-paced environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communications skills
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Experience purchasing and managing inventory
  • Knowledge of Italian products and brands
  • Advanced proficiency in MS Office


  • Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and spend significant amounts of time walking or standing in a retail environment
  • Ability to operate equipment such as a hand truck or cash register as needed
  • Availability to work onsite with a flexible schedule sometimes including evenings, weekends and holidays
